Vice President for Medical Devices & Combination Products

Lead one of life science consulting's most complex and fast-growing fields

About Emendo R&D

Emendo R&D is a specialized life science consultancy supporting pharmaceutical and medical device companies across the full R&D lifecycle. As part of Emendo Consulting Group, Emendo R&D has earned five consecutive Børsen Gazelle awards - a reflection of the pace at which we have grown and the quality of the team behind it.

The Role

As part of a planned leadership transition, we are recruiting two new Vice Presidents to lead Emendo R&D into its next chapter of growth. This is one of those two roles. The other is a VP for Innovation, Materials & Sustainability - the two positions are being recruited simultaneously, and the two VPs will work closely together as peers on the Leadership Team.

This role spans the full breadth of medical device development - from technology and early innovation through design control, regulatory strategy, and market entry - with a particular ambition to accelerate our Combination Products practice.

As VP of Medical Devices & Combination Products, you will own one of Emendo R&D's core business areas and be a member of our Executive Leadership Team. You will attend Board meetings and work closely with the VP of Pharma and our Managing Partners to shape the continued direction of the company.

You will lead a team of 7–10 highly skilled consultants and scientists working across medical device development, combination products, technology and early innovation, design control, regulatory strategy, and supplier management. This is a role that combines technical leadership, people development, and business growth in equal measure. As a member of Emendo R&D’s leadership team, you will continue to contribute your expertise to strategic client engagements, while balancing your consulting activities with your leadership responsibilities. This ensures that you remain connected to the challenges facing our clients and can effectively translate market insights into opportunities for both our people and our business.

The role is based at our office in Copenhagen. We work with clients across the world, and some travel is a natural part of the job.

In your first year, you will hit the ground running - immersing yourself in the team, learning from some of the sharpest scientific minds in the industry, and getting to know our broad and active client network. At the same time, you will start bringing your own network into play: opening doors, sparking conversations, and laying the commercial groundwork that will drive real growth in the years ahead. By the end of year one, you will know exactly where the opportunities are - and have the relationships to go after them.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop Emendo R&D's Medical Devices & Combination Products business area
  • Manage, develop, and inspire a team of 7–10 consultants and scientific specialists
  • Balance leadership responsibilities with active participation in client projects, ensuring close connection to customer challenges, emerging technologies, and developments across the Medical Devices industry
  • Act as senior technical sparring partner on complex challenges spanning drug-device integration, regulatory pathways, and early-stage innovation
  • Leverage and continuously expand an established industry network to drive business development, identify new opportunities, and contribute to the continued growth of the area
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, CMOs, and key stakeholders across the MedTech and pharmaceutical industries
  • Stay ahead of regulatory developments (EU MDR, FDA combination product frameworks) and emerging technologies
  • Collaborate closely with fellow Vice Presidents and leadership on Emendo R&D's overall strategy

About You

You have built a career on a strong technical foundation, likely in MedTech, combination products, or pharmaceutical device development and have progressively moved into roles where you lead teams and shape strategy.

A strong industry network is essential for success in this role. We are looking for someone who is well connected within the Medical Devices industry and enjoys building relationships, identifying opportunities, and translating market insights into business growth.

You may currently hold a title such as Head of R&D, R&D Director, Development Manager, or Technical Director, but what matters most is that you understand the specific challenges of bringing combination products and medical devices to market, and you have a genuine passion for developing people.

You bring:

  • Solid experience within medical device and/or combination product development, including familiarity with drug-device integration (e.g. prefilled syringes, autoinjectors, delivery systems)
  • Strong understanding of relevant regulatory frameworks and standards governing medical devices and combination products - and how to navigate them in practice
  • Proven track record of leading and growing high-performing technical teams
  • An ambition to combine leadership with hands-on consulting work, remaining actively involved in client projects, technical challenges, and industry developments rather than operating solely as a people manager.
  • A broad, established network across the MedTech and/or pharmaceutical industries that you actively leverage for business development - this is a key part of how you will grow the area
  • A genuine appetite for business development and marketing - you are energised by identifying new opportunities, shaping how the area is positioned in the market, and building client relationships that grow over time
  • The ability to translate complex technical challenges into client value and business opportunity
  • Comfort operating in an entrepreneurial, fast-moving consulting environment

Life at Emendo R&D

We are a high-performance team that takes pride in delivering work our clients remember - the kind of cases that become good stories. At the same time, we believe that great results come from people who genuinely enjoy working together.

That means we make room for fun. We get together socially as often as we have the opportunities, run together every week, and every second year the whole team goes on a trip, not just to celebrate, but to make sure we know each other as people, not just colleagues. If you thrive in an environment that is serious about work and serious about the people doing it, you will fit right in.
